Zitat: According to a scooper for Aint it Cool, the long-planned film version of comic fave Preacher at one stage set to star James Marsden in the title role is as dead as, well, its dead. OK? Spare me the thought of another analogy.
The good news? Preacher might be turning TV series. Even better news; it might be headed to HBO home of, um, Jamie Lynn Sigler (reason enough to watch in my book).
Says the scooper, I don't know good this information is, but I was at a comic convention in Dublin recently where Glenn Fabry was signing. I asked about the Preacher movie and he said that it wouldn't go ahead, that nobody wanted to do it. He then told me that days previous he had gotten a call from somebody from HBO looking for Garth Ennis' phone number. A few hours later he got a call from Garth saying that the producers from The Sopranos want to turn Preacher into a HBO TV series. There was no word on Garth's response to this.
Its a good idea, if its true. Preacher is a nifty story, it tells of a fallen evangelist who sets out to find God himself with his bounty hunter girlfriend and Irish vampire best friend.
The film was all set to go in 2003, with Rachel Talalay (Freddys Dead) directing, but it just never came to fruition.
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
100 Bullets
Das würde einschlagen wie eine Bombe! Davon bin ich ganz fest überzeugt
Weitere Vorschläge ?
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Gehört wie Aquaman zu den Archiven
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Naja...
Fables Hellblazer Y - The Last Man
Cool wäre auch das Hellboy-Spin-Off "B.P.R.D." oder natürlich die Road-Soap "Walking Dead"
Und Dan Slott und Alan Heinberg gestalten zusammen die Ally McBeal-Variante von "SHE-HULK"!
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Zitat: As for the notion of an HBO production, he says he knows very little about this, but-- like me-- feels that Preacher would be brilliantly served on Television.und hier, wie MM selbst darüber denkt:
Zitat: As much as I love Preacher, I've always been nervous about the idea of a movie because the idea of squeezing sixty-plus issues into a two hour plot is everything that annoyed me about Constantine, From Hell, V, etc. Preacher wouldn't cost much to make and is a slow, unfolding character drama perfectly suited to television. It's a serial and, re-reading those comics, it's a bloody HBO serial. Imagine the care and attention that went into The Sopranos or Deadwood going into this, the best comic of the 90s. A big budget movie would focus on all the least interesting aspects of the book (the Heaven and Hell stuff) and totally miss the great characters and situations that Garth and Steve unfolded over five years. Jodie? TC? Starr? The Saint of Killers? I want this on my goggle-box now.
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Re: PREACHER... on TV?
Rumors have been flying of late that PREACHER, the well-regarded comics epic by Garth Ennis and steve Dillon, is going to be an HBO mini-series. Now, over at the NYC MECH message board, there's a "my cousin's brother's barber told me this" kind of confirmation that sounds very promising:
Just talked to a friend of mine who works for a production company in Canada. He said one of his film school buddies called him up yesterday, all excited because he just landed a staff writing gig on a new 12-part HBO miniseries.
"Oh, yeah? That's great, man! What's the show?"
"It's called PREACHER."
Looks like it's official, guys. In a later post, Beaton elaborates: From what the guy said (and, again, this is second-hand), they're adapting the entire story, back-to-front, as a single 12-episode miniseries, the way they did it with BAND OF BROTHERS.
I really don't think it's too short. PREACHER is a pretty fast read, as is. It's certainly possible to read all nine volumes in 12 hours, especially if you throw out all the stuff they'll almost certainly cut (the minis and prequels, the flat-out silly stuff, etc.)
No idea who the show-runner will be, but Garth Ennis is apparently going to have some kind of input on the project, though the exact level of his involvement is uncertain. (Executive producer, maybe?)
There you have it. Third (now fourth) hand...but...intriguing.
