Es gibt ja gewisse Leute die immer sagen, dass sich Vertigo Titel viel besser verkaufen als Superhelden und dies besonders im Buchhandel. Ich habe immer gesagt, dass dies nicht stimmt und nun haben wir es schwarz auf weiss:
These titles tracking (especially, to me, 52) says that the oft-repeated line that the bookstore environment isnt interested in superhero comics, especially ones tied to continuity, is clearly wrong. In particular, 52 v1 outsells every Vertigo title except for V For Vendetta and Sandman v1. Thats hardly a sign of a market rejecting the superhero genre, in my opinion.
Not one of the Minx titles makes the Top 750, nor does any CMX title except for Megatokyo, which is OEL. Looking deep into the Long Tail, Minxs Plain Janes sells 3201 copies, none of the other four Minx titles even manages to crack a meager 800 copies sold in the bookstore environment. Arent those books specifically designed for the bookstores, and the customers that shop there?
Theres a lot of conventional wisdom that suggests that things like the Minx and Vertigo books sell oodles and oodles better in the bookstore market than the do in the DM, but I have to tell you, now that Im looking at the full BookScan list, I can guarantee you that this is simply false. Now that I can see into the Long Tail, what I can tell you is that, while the bookstore market can (potentially) sell more copies of the top of the bookstore-oriented material, on anything else the DM beats them handily.

Sources close to freelancers inform me that DC Comics has a new in house policy for pencillers. Heftige Sache, wenn es stimmt. Die Kontroverse: Professionalität VS. Einschränkung der Qualität? Ich persönlich finde diese Politik hat ein ehrenwertes Ziel aber sie macht an der falschen Stelle Druck. Man kann nicht einfach von jedem Artist verlangen, dass er gleich schnell ist. Was man jedoch verlangen kann, ist bessere Planungsarbeit durch die Redakteure. Zum Beispiel sollten Comics, die von langsamen Artists gezeichnet werden, nicht zu früh angekündigt werden bzw. es soll gewartet werden, bis 80% der Ausgaben beisamen sind.
Dc betreibt dies jetzt schon seit Monaten und Marvel in letzter Zeit auch.
Lieber 22 gute Seiten von 2 Artists, als 22 verkorkste von einem.

Lieber 22 gute Seiten von 2 Artists, als 22 verkorkste von einem.Hm, das seh ich genau andersrum. Ich warte lieber auf gutes Artwork, statt irgendein verunstaltetes Heft zu kaufen. Es hat einen Grund, weshalb manche Fill-In Zeichner so fix sind...
Ausnahmen gibt es da leider wenige (Cap, IIF, DD). Dort ist es allerdings prima gelöst und zeigt wahre Stärken eines Editors.
(Ok, hab jetzt wieder was für den Art-Snob Status getan... )
