"IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD" (Corrosion of Conformity)

Life can be funny sometimes.

And by "funny", of course, i mean so horrifyingly absurd that one becomes utterly paralyzed by depression to the point that one considers choking one's self to death with one's own hands.

On February 3rd, we posted a reminder that Leonard Peltier is spending his 28th year behind bars as a political prisoner in the so-called "free-world". We also recognized the 10th anniversary of the once-preventable genocide in Rwanda and the lessons to be drawn from it. No one emailed us about it. Nobody from the media called us or G7 or Fat Wreck Chords with urgent pleas for details. Nobody flooded the punk rock messageboards with expressions of outrage at the injustice.

On March 9th, we posted a call for action in defense of Mohamed Cherfi, a community-activist and a real human being facing real-life deportation from the so-called free world to face certain persecution in Algeria. No one emailed us about it. Nobody from the media called us or G7 or Fat Wreck Chords with urgent pleas for details. Nobody flooded the punk rock messageboards with expressions of outrage at the injustice.

Then 24-hours ago, after getting a string of emails asking about our song on the upcoming "Rock Against Bush" comp, i post some off-handed comment (see below, March 15th) about how we won't be on the comp and suddenly the sky is falling. Everybody starts emailing us about it. The media is scrambling to get in touch with us and berating Fat Wreck Chords with urgent pleas for details. The punk rock message-boards are flooded with people expressing their outrage at either Fat Mike or us.

"Sad" is a word utterly insufficient to describe what volumes this speaks to where the modern punk-scene places its priorties.
