Music...

Having answered all my emails and having little else to do at the moment, I've been wandering around online and found Mario's homepage. And a collection of MP3 files.

I type this along to the strains of "Improvi".

This lead me to wonder - what wonderful tracks are lined up for the remake of TOB? Will we have an end sequence accompanied by a track like this one?

You can shortcut to the list from here:

I hope Mario isn't put out by this newfound musical fame!

Re: Music...

Yeeeeaaah, my first fan in the world Someone has listened to the songs The most songs are old. I have composed them when I have made my training as "Kommunikationselektroniker" for three years. There were much idle time and after work I have spent my time with composing some songs on the Amiga (do you know the music editor MED?). Later I used the sequencer software "Cakewalk" on the PC. My first keyboard was a simple plastic thing Before I began to study I spent my money for better keyboard -> The digital piano "Roland HP 1800e" and one of the first wavetable cards for the Sound Blaster AWE sound card... The last 6-7 years I found no time to do some "musical experiments" But since I began with RToB I try to find a good melody for the game (Marcus made a suggestion, that the title melody has to sound like "Crockett's theme" or so ) but I'm not a good musician. The song "Improvi" was only one bang for the buck (Glückstreffer?)

If you want to hear my first conceptions of some title melodies, you can download them here:

(They are without drums, effects and others, only the simple melody)

Re: Music...

Crockett's Theme? The one by Jan Hammer? It seems a little upbeat for a game featuring robot spiders, traps, deadly laser beams and much careful thought!

Of your three examples, the first track is very bouncy. You could call it "March of the Hoppers" or something. It feels too... comical for the serious nature of the plot.

The second track is excellent. I like that one. It sounds like a waltz of some kind...

Track 3 - another waltz. Again, in the right mood - it's hard to choose between this and the second. Though this one feels more like a "Game Over" sequence to me - perhaps for the end credits, when all towers are completed.

If you need inspiration for music, I suggest you raid classical stuff. All the copyrights on those are long since dead!

Re: Music...

Oh, I always wanted to check out those songs, too, but completely forgot about them... :-/
Improvi sounds really nice, but currently I don't have the time to listen to it more closely. More detailed comments later, promised!

Re: Music...

Perhaps I should mention that my partner likes the first track ("Hopper March") best of all...

Maybe a vote is needed, but there are so few of us...

Re: Music...

I mostly agree with Arti.

"March of the hoppers" would be a great title for the first track. It even sounds a little like "March of the S.O.D." without guitars.... *gg*
No, seriously, I like the song very much. It's like a happier version of a song by the band Summoning. And I absolutely don't think it's too comical for ToB. It's a wonderful "level solved" tune!

The other two songs have quite a sad mood. I'd say Test02 is still a suitable title track, but the last one is definitely an overdose of sadness for that purpose, since I wouldn't want to cry each time I play ToB... It'd be perfect for the end sequence, though!

Re: Music...

"March of the hopper", a very good title vor the first test track But these three tracks are not all suggestions, maybe I will have another ideas...

What's about with the song "Dreamland" on my homepage? First I thought that this song would suit for a title song...
