More intriguingly, will it actually work on Windows XP? If so, I may need to buy my own copy...
Artinum.

Zitat: Fawlty Z, how about you'd rename the "I got one" thread to "I got one - Introduction of new members" or something like that?Pfff... well, you see, I never actually expected the number of our members to climb to such astonishing heights. Thought we'd be stuck with 6 members for the rest of our lives...

Re: Other old games we remember.
Hi,
It does not run on XP. Can't even get the damn thing installed. I am normaly running a dual boot machine with ME on the other partition. But it didn't survive the new audio card.
I will try again this weekend.

Re: Other old games we remember.
I've taken the plunge regarding Archipelagos 2000 and bid for a copy on eBay. I got it for a penny! (plus £1.99 P&P, so £2 in all).
It works fine on XP. The makers seem to have faithfully reproduced all the levels and basic enemies but here the similarity ends... many things have changed, some good and some bad.
(1) Graphics have improved a great deal.
(2) The sound is flat now as the only music in the entire game is the little riff you get when the obelisk sinks into the ground. Where'd the atmospheric and downright weird music go?! I was missing that most of all!!
(3) The game manual has been savaged. I'm sure the plot was better fleshed out than that.
(4) The game map has gone. Rather than pausing the game and showing the full map on a separate screen, you get a small section of map shown in the corner. You can turn this off if it annoys. The problem is that this map both makes the game much easier and completely spoils the effect of those "every fifth level" special maps (like map 10, "Eastenders") because you can't see it all at once.
(5) The controls feel weird. You have far too much range now (you used to need to get closer to things in order to reach them and the mouse cursor only went so far up the screen). Panning mode is awkward and I never used to use it - I now have to in order to turn. The instant turn around from the original is gone. It is also very difficult to die as you can't just step into blood or sand - clicking on these squares automatically 'fixes' them instead.
