Retiring from some touring and a new focus
Wakeman has retired from more substantial solo tours and is focusing more on TV and radio work (see below), but he is still doing some live work on a reduced scalesee comments below about the 2008 leg of Grumpy Old Picture Show tour. At various times, he has referred to a self-imposed limit of 25 shows a year (e.g. saying in his Winter Newsletter 2007: "I stuck to my guns and performed just 25 shows worldwide" in 2007). In the "Classic Rock Presents Prog Rock" magazine special (UK, released Jun 2007, see main page for details), Wakeman explained:
"I made the public decision to stop doing long tours and only do short bursts of a week, possibly 10 days at most, but mainly to try and work on the bigger projects that I so much love to do."
..und:
"I still intend to keep the live performances to a sensible amount and so long spells of touring are still not on the agenda and to be honest, won't be again. 2007 proved to me once again that I had made the correct decision as with fewer performances each one became special and had a little something unique."
