*candles lit for chan*

Re: *candles lit for chan*

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii   save journey Chan iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Re: *candles lit for chan*

SHELTON, SANDRA A. - Age 61, of Oscoda, MI, died Monday, March 22nd, 2010, at Saginaw St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on July 2nd, 1948, in Knoxville, TN, to the late William and Katherine Chandler (nee Harrison). Sandra received her Bachelor's Degree from Tennessee Weslyan College. She married Hurman Shelton Jr. in Athens, TN, on December 20, 1970, and they moved to Oscoda in July of 1971. Sandra retired from Oscoda Cedar Lake Elementary in 2005 after 34 years of teaching. She taught kindergarten for most of her career, though she spent some time in first, fourth, art, computers and as a librarian. She also painted sets for the Northeast Academy of Dance and was a longstanding member and beloved artist for the worldwide Beauty & the Beast TV series fan club. Her artwork has been displayed all over the area in the form of murals, summer banners, Cool Cities posters, the Oscoda Township flag and on the Buy Local First tote bags. Sandy was a well-known figure around town, most often found at her recently closed storefront, Work In Progress, creating artwork on location, or simply walking her constant companion, Baci. Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Hurman R. Shelton, Jr.; two daughters, Amber Shelton of Fountain, CO, and Amy Shelton of Dexter, MI. She is also survived by her brothers, William "Bud" Chandler of Maryville, TN, Donald Richard "Dick" Chandler of Powell, TN; and her sister, Deborah Chandler Gray of Knoxville, TN. A "casual clothes" memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 15, 4pm at the Oscoda American Legion building. Everyone is invited to attend, a pot luck offering would be appreciated. A candlemap for Chan

Chan has been an important part of WFOL since its beginning; and we'd like to offer a candlemap like the one we use for Winterfest to allow her family to see how far her talent, goodwill and enthusiasm reached and how much it was appreciated. You can click on the link below if you'd like to light a candle and leave a message for her family. [To make it easily available to her family and anyone else in Oscoda who might be interested, the link will be sent to the funeral home's memorial page and to Chan's friend, who is planning the memorial.]

In case some of the newest members of our community wonder why losing Chan has hit so many of us so hard...

Chan was strongly involved in BATB conventions from the beginning in the late 80's and has remained one of the most active fans among all those we can account for - both online and off - playing a large part in making opportunities available for other fans to enjoy BATB during all the years since. She was extremely generous with her talent and her time, and was responsible for a large number of new fans finding their way to the BATB community.

Several candlemakers have come and gone, and we always miss the ones who leave us; but this is the first time we've had to say a final farewell to one of our own. In light of her many contributions in helping to hold fans together over the past two decades, the map seemed a fitting tribute.
