Für die Arbeit an ihrem fünften Studioalbum haben sich Elbow auf die Inneren Hebriden zurückgezogen. Der Nachfolger von "The Seldom Seen Kid" entsteht derzeit auf der abgelegenen schottischen Insel Mull.
"Wir haben gerade neues Material auf Mull aufgenommen, welches der schönste Ort auf Erden ist", enthüllt Frontmann Guy Garvey gegenüber dem britischen Daily Record. Elbows Studio befindet sich in einer umgebauten Kirche, zwischen schneebedeckten Bergen am Rande eines Sees.
Zwischen schreiben und aufnehmen beschäftigen sich Elbow mit dem Fischen, der Zubereitung ihres Fangs, Abhängen und Alkohol: "Wir bleiben draußen bis es dunkel wird oder wir fischen den ganzen Nachmittag und kommen erst am frühen Abend zurück. Wir arbeiten in der Regel erst nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit, danach sitzen wir einfach da und essen - natürlich Fisch".
Ein Großteil der Songs für den Nachfolger von "The Seldom Seen Kid" seien so bereits ohne Zeitdruck und ohne Zwang zur Arbeit in der schottischen Einöde entstanden. Mit einer Veröffentlichung sei noch vor 2010 zu rechnen.
