I Am Kloot ist eine englische Musikgruppe, die 1999 in Manchester gegründet wurde. Sie spielt Indie-Rock mit oftmals akustischer Instrumentierung. John Bramwell arbeitete im Club Night&Day als Konzertorganisator und lernte dort die beiden weiteren Bandmitglieder Andy Hargreaves und Pete Jobson kennen. Das erste Konzert spielte die Band 1999 im vollen Night&Day. Darauf folgten mehrere Singles. Ihr erstes Album Natural History erschien 2001 und wurde in der englischen Presse gelobt: Unter anderem verglich der NME Bramwells Songwritingfähigkeiten mit denen von Morrissey und Stuart Murdoch (Belle and Sebastian); die Stimmung der Platte wurde als zwischen Selbsthaß, Zynismus und Zärtlichkeit schwankend beschrieben und das Werk erhielt 8 von 10 Punkten. RECORDING NEW ALBUM WITH ELBOWS GUY GARVEY & CRAIG POTTER
Manchester three-piece I Am Kloot celebrate their 10th anniversary with the announcement of a new album to be released later this year.
10 years into their lifespan the band will mark the occasion by returning to their roots and recording an album with close allies Guy Garvey & Craig Potter of Elbow the duo who produced Kloot's acclaimed debut Natural History. Work began in Stockports Moolah Rouge in the first week of January for the album, tentatively titled, The Sky At Night
Heres what Guy & Craig have to say regarding the hook up:
Guy Garvey "Producing Natural History (I Am Kloot's 1st album) was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. So when they invited us to produce this record I was overjoyed. Craig (Potter - elbow keyboard player and producer) being involved is perfect because he actually knows what he is doing. Moolah Rouge (Stockport recording studio) is a perfect space to make a record. It is a state of the art studio but well worn and authentic its just my kind of toy shop. As for the songs; they are Johns' best. Listening to the demos was like being jostled by gentlemen thieves. I looked down and my heart was gone; and my fucking wallet!"
Craig Potter: "I been a huge fan of 'Kloot' from the very beginning and I'm very exited to be working with them. There's a great buzz around the studio and having been in the lucky position of hearing the new songs - I'm very confident that this is going to be a very special record indeed."

Es ist nicht das originellste Geschenk, Sammlern und Fans dennoch immer wieder eine wahre Freude: das Raritätenalbum. I Am Kloot feiern ihr zehnjähriges Bestehen mit ihrer eigenen B-Seiten-Sammlung.
*** Nicht selten jedoch birgt eine solche Zusammenstellung seltener und bislang unveröffentlichter Songs Gefahren. Zu schnell wirkt der Versuch den Fans Bonusmaterial zu verschaffen beliebig und allzu kalkuliert. Im ungünstigsten Fall ist ein solches Album überflüssig, überteuert und stellt den Niedergang der betreffenden Band dar.
Dagegen sehen sich I Am Kloot abgesichert, ein neues Album steht unter dem Titel "The Sky At Night" vor baldiger Vollendung durch Guy Garvey und Craig Potter, eher bekannt als Musiker bei Elbow. In einer solchen Seilschaft darf man eine Raritätensammlung zum zehnjährigen Bandbestehen gerne als Überbrückung langer Wartezeiten sehen.
Bereits seit vergangenem Montag ist das schlicht mit "B" betitelte Album erhältlich, bisher ausschließlich als Import. Ob I Am Kloot die Platte auch deutschen Fans zugänglich machen, bleibt abzuwarten.
*Möglicherweise liegt es während ihrer kommenden Tour am Merchandise-Stand.
