Richard Ashcroft (* 11. September 1971 in Wigan, England) ist ein britischer Musiker, der als Frontmann von Verve (später umbenannt in The Verve) bekannt wurde. Er ist Songwriter, Sänger, Gitarrist und spielt zudem Keyboard bzw. Klavier. Richard Ashcroft wurde 1971 in Wigan, einer englischen Stadt zwischen Liverpool und Manchester, geboren. Geprägt wurde seine Kindheit durch den frühen Tod seines Vaters. 2005 bekannte er sich öffentlich dazu an einer bipolaren Störung zu leiden und Medikamente wie Prozac zu nehmen. Auf der Schule spielte er im Fußballteam und träumte zunächst davon, Profi bei Manchester United zu werden. 1989 gründete er mit drei Freunden die Band The Verve. Diese brach trotz (oder gerade wegen) großer Erfolge 1999 auseinander, worauf Ashcroft sich auf seine Solokarriere konzentrierte. RICHARD HAS RELEASED A NEW SONG !
Richard's new song 'The Journey' is the theme music for a short film of the same name by Richard Jobson and Emma Thompson about the realities of sex trafficking. The song can be downloaded from iTunes here and all proceeds go to the Helen Bamber Foundation.

SOLO ALBUM DUE OUT IN APRIL !
No I.D. is to produce Richard's forthcoming solo album (as yet untitled) that is due out in April 2010. Richard was impressed with No I.D.'s production of Jay-Z's 'D.O.A.' and an interview where No I.D. spoke of how some producers destroy albums just for the sales. They went in and recorded between 20-30 songs in New York, Los Angeles and London.

Nachdem es mit dem Erfolg seiner wieder vereinigten Band The Verve nicht so recht klappen wollte, probiert Richard Ashcroft es nun mit einer neuen Gruppe: United Nations of Sound.
Der Arbeitstitel des am 7. Juni erscheinenden Albums heißt "Redemption", im selben Monat kommen Ashcroft und Co. für zwei Konzerte nach Deutschland:
