Die Homepage von Leisureways ist zumindest seit 2006 nicht mehr aktualisiert worden, da habe ich aber große Zweifel ob Boote noch vermietet werden. Schon in 2004 teilten uns Derek und Una Whelan mit das sie mit den Gedanken spielen das Geschäft zu verkaufen. Ja man muss sehr vorsichtig sein. Nachfolgend meine letzten Informationen aus Ireland.
Wie zu lesen ist, steht ein Boot zur Verfügung und wird auf besondere Vereinbarung privat vermietet.
Falls Sie eine neue Boat Company entdecken sollten, werden Sie sich sicher rühren, bzw. hier posten?

We have given-up the hire business and sold most of the boats in 2007/08 ( very luckily because it is almost impossible to sell boats in Ireland since). We did retain 1 boat which we use ( most often family and friends) for day trips/weekends. If you come to Ireland you would be welcome to use it.
On the Dublin end we have recently spoken to an Engineer who tells us he hopes to remove the electricity cable which stops entry to the Liffey by this years end.( I think, I have told you this was at 1.4 meter clearance but I have now measured again and it is 1.25m). The bridge ( 2.2/2.4m clearance) may be increased to 3 meter clearance in 2 years but this is not so important - all of our former boats could clear this present height.
IWAI in Dublin have commissioned a plaque for the first 100 boats to complete the "Trianglular Ring" ( Royal-Shannon-Grand Canal) and we expect a serious contest next Spring for boats to earn this award. The route was last completed by the "Hark" in 1955 and the first plaque will be awarded to her but the rest are open to those brave enough to tackle the journey ( 89 locks and 350km). I estimate it will take about 2 or 3 weeks ( fast pace or more leisurely).

Ich überlege, im nächsten Sommer wieder eine Bootstour zu machen. Kann mir jemand sagen, ob der Royal Canal auch für Shannonkreuzer (********, CC) zugelassen ist oder steht am Richmod Harbour ein Schild mit der Aufschrift "Wir müssen draußen bleiben"?

Ich empfehle den RC nur mit Narrowboats zu befahren!

Danke für den Tipp, aber wo gibt es die? Im RC selbst schient das ja ein echtes Problem zu sein.

Hallo,
wäre interessant, ob man den RC mit Booten von den Vermitern an Erne/Shannon befahren kann/darf. Technisch müsste das doch zumindest mit kleineren Booten (z.b Town Star oder Mountain Star) ohne Fly gehen? Die Frage ist, obs da versicherungstechnisch Probleme gibt. Wie ist denn die Aussattung/der Komfort auf den Narrowboats? Kann man das mit den "üblichen" Cruisern vergleichen?
