Attempted operation by Turkish army on guerrilla areas

People’s Defence Forces Press Office HPG-BIM has reported in a written statement that the Turkish army attempted to launch an operation in the Haftanin area in guerrilla-controlled Medya Defense Zones. The operation attempt was defeated by the response of the guerrillas.

According to the statement of the HPG, Turkish soldiers from the Maymun hill military post located on the border with Haftanin attempted to launch an operation in the area yesterday afternoon. The soldiers had to retreat following a warning fire shot by guerrilla forces in response. Following this activity, mortars were fired from the military post on Martyr Kendal area around midnight.

Turkey supporting ISIS in its attacks on the Assyrians

Assyrian people living in Til Temir said Turkey had allowed the level of the Khabour River to rise for the first time 15 years after it had been cut off, adding that this could not be random.

Some local Assyrians told ANF that the attacks and the rise of the water level happened at the same time, demonstrating that Turkey was also involved in the attack.

Yunadan Nuviya Werdem (65), an Assyrian living in Til Temir, said the rise of the water in the Khabour River was not coincidental and due to rain or snow as it happened at the start of the attacks by ISIS, adding that it demonstrated the support of Turkey for ISIS in its attacks on Assyrians. Werdem also said the Zirgan river, which originates in Turkey and is a tributary of the Khabour, was also allowed to flow during the attacks, adding that they believe that Turkey allowed the water to flow three days ago in order to assist the gangs

ISIS attacked with Turkish state assistance

'ISIS attacked with Turkish state assistance; we have the footage’

Serêkanîyê YPJ commander Çiçek Xemgin said ISIS had attacked Til Temir and Serêkaniyê (Ras ‘al Ayn) in order to distract attention from its defeats in Kobanê, Til Hemis and Til Berak, but that this would not prevent the obliteration of the organisation.

Xemgin said the Turkish state was still actively supporting the ISIS gangs, adding that they had footage of gunfire from Turkish military posts and positions and of wounded gang members being carried in Turkish military vehicles and taking refuge in Turkish military posts.

'Our comrades were hit by snipers on the Turkish border’

YPJ commander Xemgin said that the gangs had brought in reinforcements from Aleppo and other places after being defeated in Til Hemis and Til Berak, and attacked Til Temir and Serêkaniyê. She said: "They launched attacks with bomb-laden vehicles. We halted the vehicle and killed those inside it. Some of our comrades were hit by snipers embedded amongst Turkish troops. We hit back and killed some of the gang members on the border. Others escaped and took shelter in the Turkish military post. We attempted to take the hill where the gang members were at night, but we were fired on from the Turkish side. They obviously have night sights and thermal equipment. This confirms that the Turkish state is a party to this war.”

Erdoğan keeps denying the Kurdish question

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received mukhtars at his Palace Monday afternoon. Speaking here, Erdoğan has once again denied the presence of the Kurdish question.

"Using the 'Kurdish question' concept is an injustice to our Kurdish brothers and sisters. This is discrimination. There are not only Kurds, but also 36 ethnic components in this country", he said.

Not giving up provoking the peoples against each other, Erdoğan pointed to 6-8 October and Gezi demonstrations, ignoring the people killed by the state, and arguing that; "Let us not forget how the vehicles and shops of our people, and municipal buses were burnt down and demolished."

Also pointing the HDP as a target, the Turkish President emphasised that they will take no steps until the PKK lays down arms.

Split in AKP is good for Turkey

HDP Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş commented on the growing split in the AKP, saying: “All this upheaval is the beginning of the end for the AKP. The steps taken by the HDP, the stance of the Kurdish freedom movement, the victory in Kobanê and Mr Öcalan's clear and determined calls have deepened this split, which will be beneficial for Turkey.”

Abdullah Öcalan's message read out in Amed emphasised “agreement on principles and the parties fulfilling their responsibilities”, and also mentioned a “Democratic Common Home in the Middle East.” President Erdoğan recent statement to the effect that he ‘did not approve of the monitoring delegation’ exposed the growing split in the AKP. What is happening in the AKP? What is the significance of Öcalan's Newroz message? What sort of message was Ankara expecting? Did Öcalan give a date for disarming? What is Erdoğan trying to do? Will the monitoring delegation be set up?

Demirtaş stressed that Öcalan definitely did not give a date for disarming, contrary to the claims of the pro-government media, and said the government must decide whether there is a Kurdish question, “as if there is not a Kurdish question what will the monitoring delegation monitor?” he added.

HDP Co-president Selahattin Demirtaş answered ANF's questions thus:

Turkey and the Kurds: A Possible Agreement

...................The urgency for the PKK and the major achievement would be the recognition of Kurdish rights, although the term, autonomy, may not be included. The urgency for the AKP is that, in order to get the 75% in the Turkish parliament needed to adopt a new constitution, they may need the votes of Kurdish members of parliament.

So, amidst much caution and continuing mutual suspicion, the two sides are moving significantly closer to a deal. With some difficulty, Ocalan will probably be able to bring his base in line with the prospective arrangements. He remains a Kurdish hero. If the deal goes through, the Kurds will have achieved linguistic and cultural rights. It remains to be seen how much the economic situation of the ordinary Kurds will improve.
